The name Gilberts Furnishers personifies quality in Stoke-on-Trent and the surrounding areas of Staffordshire. The name Gilberts was brought up from London, by the Gold family during, the Second World War after the blitz. The Gold’s traded under the company name until their retirement, then in the early seventies a young and enthusiastic carpet fitter and upholsterer named Stuart Smith bought the company from them and began trading from a store in Longton store.
The store remained open until 1990, after which they moved to the old Coop dairy in Hartshill near Newcastle. They purchased the dairy in 1989 but it took 12 months to move and convert it into the furniture store, which we still trade from to this day. The building, which also has the benefit of ample parking, covers 60,000 square feet over three floors.
The company is now run by the second generation of the Smith family and we are determined to continue to bring good quality furniture at competitive prices to all of Gilberts customers, new and old. Following a period of steady, sustained growth in 2003 we chose to convert our in store warehouse into a bed and bedroom department leaving us with the task of finding a new location for our warehousing. We found this very suitable location on Fenton Industrial Estate. The 20,000 square foot warehouse is conveniently located allowing us to safely and efficiently deliver your goods quickly and conveniently.
In 2007 we chose to convert Unit 1 of our warehouse into a Clearance Showroom where we are able to display clearance lines as well as part exchanged, ex loan and bumped and bruised furniture. So if you want to pick up a bargain and don’t mind the odd, often character adding, bump and bruise, our Clearance Showroom is the place for you.
We have an array of leather and fabric sofas and chairs from £99, suites from £299, dining chairs from £19, dining tables from £99, beds from £49 and wardrobes from £149. We also have lots knick knacks and accessories that will help to add that finishing touch of pizzazz and style to your home.
